HC Deb 08 November 1955 vol 545 c1651
Mr. Lewis

May I raise a point of order with you, Mr. Speaker. for your help and, I hope, your guidance? A Question which is on the Order Paper in my name today—Question No. 47 —was down yesterday on the Notice Paper with another Question of mine asking the Prime Minister whether he would send an invitation to the Soviet Parliament to visit this country. I visited the Table Office and asked for the Question which appears on the Order Paper today to be withdrawn. I now find that there has been a mistake and that the other Question which I wanted to ask has been withdrawn. May I have your permission not to call this Question—it is not my fault that there has been a mistake—but to ask the Prime Minister whether he can answer the other Question of which he has had very many days' notice?

Mr. Speaker

I understand, in the short time available to me to consider this matter, that there has been some mistake, and I am perfectly willing for the hon. Member not to ask the Question which is on the Order Paper. As regards the Question which was wrongly withdrawn, if that is the position, and if the Prime Minister would be willing to make a statement about it after Questions, I should be a consenting party to that.

Mr. Lewis

I thank you, Mr. Speaker.
