Mr. Nabarroasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how much electricity was supplied from the area of the South of Scotland Board to the area of the North of Scotland Board during the first ten months of 1955; how much coal was consumed at the South of Scotland Board's power station in generating the electricity so transferred to the area of the Northern Board; and what steps he is taking to prevent a recurrence of coal-fired stations being required to support hydro-electricity establishments.

StuartIn the exceptional circumstances of the present year, approximately 33 million units were supplied to the North of Scotland Hydro-Electric Board in the first ten months of 1955, representing approximately 19,000 tons of coal. As regards the last part of 1640 the Question, the completion of further hydro-electric schemes should reduce any future demands made on coal stations.
