HC Deb 01 November 1955 vol 545 c836
29. Mr. Hannan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the estimated credit balance in the Teachers' Superannuation Account (Scotland) at 31st March for each of the years 1954 and 1955.

Mr. Henderson Stewart

The estimated credit balances are £37,120,000 and £39,260,000.

Mr. Hannan

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that this credit balance is now 50 per cent. greater than that stated in the Actuary's Report for 1948, and in view of the consternation in the ranks of teachers that although there is a balance here there is yet a deficiency in the fund, will the hon. Gentleman take steps at an early date—even today—to give an explanation of why these contrary terms are used?

Mr. Stewart

Yes, I will do that as soon as I get an opportunity.
