§ 11. Dr. Broughtonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether the Food Hygiene Advisory Council has yet been constituted; and if he is now able to state the names of those appointed to serve on that council.
Mr. AmoryI am glad to be able to inform the House that the membership of the Food Hygiene Advisory Council is now complete. As I have already announced, the Chairman will be Lord Strang. There are 17 members, and I will, with permission, circulate their names in the OFFICIAL REPORT.
§ Sir H. LinsteadIn view of the importance of the work of this Council in the field of preventive medicine, can my right hon. Friend say whether or not a representative of the Ministry of Health will serve on the Council?
Mr. AmoryThe Council itself consists of ladies and gentlemen appointed in their personal capacities; 11 have been 1323 appointed to represent the public, three to represent the food trades and three to represent the workers in those trades.
§ Mr. WillisDoes the right hon. Gentleman appreciate that we welcome very much the appointment of this committee and that we wish it Godspeed in its work, but that we very much regret that the right hon. Gentleman should go out of office without having laid the food regulations before the House?
§ Mr. BlenkinsopCan the right hon. Gentleman assure us that at least there is full contact between the Ministry of Health and this very important Council, in view of the discussion we had in this House not very long ago on this subject?
Mr. AmoryYes, certainly, very much so. All the regulations which come before this Council are introduced by the Minister of Health and myself.
