28. Mr. Driberg

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware that the medical laboratory technicians employed at Black Notley Hospital, Essex, are dissatisfied at the delay in dealing with outstanding questions of salary revision and grading; what are the causes of the delay; and what steps are being taken to expedite the matter.

Mr. Iain Macleod

These are matters for the appropriate Whitley Council in the first place. I understand that a further meeting is being arranged to discuss them.

Mr. Driberg

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the Whitley Council negotiations have dragged on for a good many months and the staff side have been constantly put off by the management side? Would it be possible for the right hon. Gentleman to say a word to the management side in order to expedite the matter?

Mr. Macleod

I understand that a meeting is being arranged later this month, which will discuss the matters which are mentioned in the hon. Member's Question. I think that some agreement on emergency duties has already been reached.
