HC Deb 23 March 1955 vol 538 c2057
25. Mr. Ellis Smith

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General the programme of his Department for improving the Post Office services in the city of Stoke-on-Trent during the next few years.

Sir. E. Boyle

I have dealt with the telephone service in my answers to Questions Nos. 8 and 24. The postal and telegraph services, which conform to national standards, are being extended to the new areas in the city as these develop.

Mr. Harold Davies

We are proud of the work which the telephone managers are doing in the Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire areas, but will the Assistant Postmaster-General assist in the expansion of the telephone service to the hill country? Telephones are needed in such districts as the Leek area, where children and farmers are often stranded because of bad weather.

Sir. E. Boyle

That is another Question, but I know that the hon. Member's constituency has some isolated districts and I will pass on the information to my hon. Friend.
