HC Deb 14 March 1955 vol 538 cc945-6
45. Mr. Boardman

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power if he is aware of the increasing anxiety in coal-mining areas over the effects of mining subsidence and of the need for amendment of the law relating to compensation; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

I cannot add anything to the reply I gave to the hon. Member for Newcastle-under-Lyme (Mr. Swingler) on 9th November. 1953.

Mr. Boardman

Is the Minister aware that modern mining methods are accelerating the rate of subsidence and thereby increasing the amount of damage, and that many people whose property is suffering as a consequence have no statutory right to any compensation?

Mr. Lloyd

I know that it is a difficult problem.
