HC Deb 14 March 1955 vol 538 c946
46. Mr. Jay

asked the Minister of Fuel and Power whether he will make a statement on the future retail price of coal and coke.

Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd

No, Sir.

Mr. Jay

As far as industrial coal is concerned, does the Minister consider that it is still justifiable for the Coal Board to sell coal to British industry at below the world price? Does he not think that many of our difficulties might be eased if the Coal Board charged the true economic price?

Mr. Lloyd

I will bear that suggestion in mind.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Does the Minister consider that £6 8s. 2d. for a ton of coke can really be justified?

Mr. Lloyd

I do not think that the hon. and gallant Member heard his right hon. Friend's supplementary question.
