HC Deb 02 March 1955 vol 537 cc2046-7
18. Mr. Elwyn Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what proposals Her Majesty's Government have received from the United States Government for joint American-West European economic aid to Asian countries; and what has been Her Majesty's Government's reply to those proposals.

Mr. Turton

No proposals have been received, although Her Majesty's Government are aware that the United States Government have been giving consideration to this complex problem.

Mr. Elwyn Jones

Are the Government making any counter-proposals or suggestions in regard to this matter, which is one of very great importance in view of the conditions in Asia at the present time?

Mr. Turton

The matter was, of course, one of those discussed at the Bangkok Conference, as will be seen from the communiqué, to which I would refer the hon. and learned Gentleman.
