§ 50. Mr. Emrys Hughes
asked the Prime Minister if, in view of the need for reducing consumption to meet the danger of inflation, Her Majesty's Government will now, again, reduce Cabinet Ministers' salaries to £4,000 a year until there is an improvement in the financial situation.
§ The Prime Minister
I do not think the moment has come to reduce the salaries either of Cabinet Ministers or of Members of the House of Commons.
§ Mr. Emrys Hughes
Does not the Prime Minister realise that the Chancellor of the Exchequer is hard up, and should not the Ministers, who helped to bring us into this mess and muddle, sacrifice as much as the people who buy their furniture on hire-purchase terms?
