§ 42. Mr. Remnantasked the Minister of Health what facilities are available for the rehabilitation of chronic arthritics.
§ The Minister of Health (Mr. Iain Macleod)In addition to those hospitals which specialise in the treatment of rheumatic diseases, most large general hospitals have rehabilitation departments which provide a full range of facilities including various forms of physiotherapy and occupational therapy for chronic arthritics as for those suffering from other disabilities.
§ Mr. RemnantIs my right hon. Friend aware that there are a number of coinplaints—or, at least there is a strong feeling—that much more could be done for this type of case, which is a very sad one?
§ Mr. MacleodI think it probable that, in general, the facilities are reasonably adequate, but it may well be that there is a certain lack of liaison between hospital authorities and the different welfare services. That certainly is a matter I shall be glad to look into.
