HC Deb 16 June 1955 vol 542 cc749-50
38. Mr. Grimond

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what the cost, over the last two months, has been to the Equalisation Account in gold and dollars for the support of transferable sterling.

Sir E. Boyle

It would not be in the public interest for me to disclose the operations of the Exchange Equalisation Account.

Mr. Grimond

Does that answer mean that no statistics will be made available to show whether this new policy of the Chancellor's in the spring is successful or not?

Sir E. Boyle

No figures showing the operations of the Exchange Equalisation Account have ever been published. We do not believe that it would be in the public interest to disclose them.
