HC Deb 27 July 1955 vol 544 c1174
38. Mr. Dodds

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty if he will make a statement on the claim by oil companies for compensation for oil stocks which disappeared in the closing days of the fighting in the Far East in the second world war.

The Parliamentary and Financial Secretary to the Admiralty (Commander Allan Noble)

The claim will shortly be heard by a court in Singapore.

Mr. Dodds

As many feel that this Government are much too soft with the oil companies, can we have an assurance that at least in this instance every opportunity will be taken to see that the oil people do not get any more money from the people of this country?

Commander Noble

I am sure that the hon. Member would not expect me to make any statement when this matter is sub judice in the courts.
