§ 15. Mr. Jannerasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he has now received an answer to his protest to Egypt in respect of the s.s. "Anshun"; and what was the nature of the reply.
§ Lord John HopeI have nothing to add to the reply given by my right hon. Friend to the hon. Member for Enfield, East (Mr. Ernest Davies) on 18th July.
§ Mr. JannerWould the hon. Gentleman say whether he has impressed upon the Egyptians the urgency of this matter? Is he aware that this really means that all law-abiding nations are being put in peril, including ourselves, by this nefarious act on the part of the Egyptians, and what does he intend to do to protect the international rights of shipping for ourselves and other law-abiding nations?
§ Lord John HopeThe hon. Gentleman has gone a long way from his original question. The answer to the first part of his supplementary question is "yes"—the urgency of this particular matter has been impressed upon the Egyptians.
