HC Deb 20 July 1955 vol 544 c369
28. Mr. Teeling

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies to which Dominions Maltese emigrants have gone since the last war; and how many are involved.

Mr. Hopkinson

The Commonwealth countries, with the number of Maltese emigrants to each, for the period 1st January, 1946, to 31st December, 1954, are:

Australia 26,526
Canada 5,890
South Africa 187
New Zealand 33
Total 32,636
Mr. Teeling

In view of these figures, will my right hon. Friend bear in mind when it comes to the Conference in September, August, or whenever it is to be, that if we are to discuss integration there is also the possibility of integrating in some way with Australia, Canada, and other Dominions who are interested in Malta's future?

Mr. Hopkinson

I think that I can only refer my hon. Friend to the reply given to him by the Prime Minister on the 12th of this month.
