HC Deb 11 July 1955 vol 543 cc1569-70
43. Mr. Fell

asked the Minister of Health the results of his discussions with the British Dental Association and the Minister of Education on the issuing of guidance to hospitals and local authorities to enable the best use to be made of the limited number of orthodontists available.

Mr. Iain Macleod

Circulars to local education and hospital authorities will be issued tomorrow, and copies will be available in the Library.

Mr. Fell

Is my right hon. Friend aware that this is most satisfactory and that I am very glad something should have been done about this question, but has he taken note of paragraph 36 of the B.D.A. memorandum on orthodontics in which it says: It is unfortunately common to nearly ail regions that the orthodontics problem is almost totally neglected"? In view of that, and if the matter has not already been taken in hand, will my right hon. Friend very seriously consider how he can expedite the matter, because it is very serious for many children in the country?

Mr. Macleod

I will have a look at that paragraph. The B.D.A., of course, is in general agreement with the circulars which I am issuing at the moment.
