HC Deb 28 February 1955 vol 537 cc1714-5
45. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Prime Minister which Department of State has been responsible for the production of military aircraft since November, 1951.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

I have been asked to reply.

The Ministry of Supply.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

As the Department has been so successful that we have now in some respect or the other the best defence in the world, why was it necessary to move the former Minister of Supply to a more sheltered spot and to produce a new Minister of self-defence to explain away the Government's magnificent record in this field?

Mr. Lloyd

I do not think hon. and right hon. Gentlemen opposite always thought that the Ministry of Housing and Local Government was a sheltered spot.
