HC Deb 26 April 1955 vol 540 c747
29. Mr. Vane

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is aware of the difficulty many milk producers and others in North Westmorland are meeting by reason of repeated failure of the water supply; and whether he will give an assurance that the public supply will be sufficient in the summer months to cool milk properly.

Mr. Deedes

My right hon. Friend knows of seasonal shortages in parts of this rural district and he will consider sympathetically the council's proposals to improve supplies. They recently submitted a £28,000 scheme as a first stage of a larger programme. This will be investigated locally as soon as they send in further information for which they have been asked.

Mr. Vane

Can my hon. Friend give the people who live in this district an assurance that there will be no unnecessary hold-ups in his Department so that these improvements can be put into effect as soon as possible?

Mr. Deedes

I am sure they will go ahead as quickly as they can to produce the information asked for, and I shall do my best to act as quickly as possible.

Mr. Vane

I thank my hon. Friend.
