HC Deb 06 April 1955 vol 539 c1144
12. Mr. Simmons

asked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation the present position with regard to the proposed motor racing track in the area of the Peak Park Planning Board; whether any information on the matter has yet been conveyed to the board; and what action his Department is taking in view of the apprehension aroused.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I understand that the question of racing on the roads of Derbyshire is being considered by the Derbyshire County Council. The project, if approved by the council, would require legislation, and there would, therefore, be ample opportunities for interested parties, including the Peak Park Planning Board, to express their views.

Mr. Simmons

Will not the Minister at least give an assurance that this piece of vandalism will not be perpetrated in Dovedale?

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

If the Derbyshire County Council so desires—and the matter is with it, I understand—the procedure would be for it to promote private legislation in connection with which, under the procedure of this House, all interests can be represented and all views expressed.
