§ 44. Mr. Swinglerasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government when he expects to be in a position to make a statement on assistance to local authorities affected by mining subsidence.
§ Mr. DeedesMy right hon. Friend wishes to visit some of the areas affected before making a statement. He hopes to be able to do this in the near future.
§ Mr. SwinglerHow much longer are the victims of mining subsidence to wait? Is the Minister aware that the 1949 recommendations of the Turner Committee are perfectly well known, and have been studied in his Department now for three years? Why have we to wait for the Minister to find time to visit some of the mining areas to discover facts which are available in his Department, when the recommendations are ready to be implemented?
§ Mr. DeedesThe hon. Gentleman will be aware that my right hon. Friend is anxious to study this problem on the spot before reaching a decision.
