§ 17. Mr. Osborneasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the rate per annum for wages and salaries before taxation for the year 1954 to the latest convenient date as compared with £5,110 million and £2,585 million for 1951, respectively, as shown in the National Income and Expenditure Accounts published in August, 1954.
§ Mr. R. A. ButlerFrom the information so far available, it appears likely that the total of wages and salaries in 1954 will be between £9,250 and £9,300 million, compared with £7,695 million in 1951. I regret that separate figures for wages and salaries in 1954 cannot yet be obtained.
§ Mr. OsborneWhen will the Chancellor be in a position to give the 1954 figures? Is he not aware that they should show that today the wage earner is getting far more than he ever got under a Socialist Administration?
§ Mr. ButlerLet us hope, firstly, that I get the figures and, secondly, that they show those results.
