HC Deb 09 November 1954 vol 532 c1016
12. Mr. John Hall

asked the Secretary of State for War what progress has been made in the standardisation of Army vehicles.

Mr. Head

We are making progress, but it is a most complex and difficult problem.

Mr. Hall

Does my right hon. Friend agree that with the number of vehicles in the Army approaching 300,000, and considering the need for economy in men and materials, standardisation is a matter of urgency?

Mr. Head

Yes, I entirely agree. As I told my hon. Friend, we set up a committee which has just reported. It is a very lengthy report. We are now trying to bring its recommendations into effect, but it would be idle for me to give hopes that standardisation of all vehicles in the Army is at the moment within sight.
