HC Deb 02 November 1954 vol 532 cc185-6
11. Mr. Grimond

asked the Minister of Works to make a statement on the proposal to exhibit pictures at Lancaster House.

Mr. Birch

The trustees of the National Gallery have agreed that if the necessary powers are granted to them by the Bill now before Parliament, Lancaster House will be used to show pictures which cannot be hung at the Gallery.

Mr. Grimond

May I ask how often Lancaster House will be open and if my hon. Friend can say whether it will all be open or whether only part is to be open to the public?

Mr. Birch

At the moment the State apartments are open in the summer on Saturdays, Sundays and Bank Holidays. We want to wait and see what the demand is for admission. If there is a great demand we will consider opening them more.
