HC Deb 25 May 1954 vol 528 cc180-1
6. Sir W. Darling

asked the Minister of Works the relationship between the Atomic Energy Department and the European Nuclear Research Organisation in the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, for which the provision of £360,000 is made in this year's Estimates.

Sir D. Eccles

The European Organisation for Nuclear Research is an international body for collaboration in fundamental research in that part of the field of nuclear physics which is concerned with very high energy particles. Her Majesty's Government contributes to the Organisation through the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, and the Department of Atomic Energy will have no formal connection with it. The organisation's work, which will not be secret, will not duplicate that done at Harwell, but it is hoped that relations between the two bodies will be close.
