§ 19. Mr. T. Reidasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what specific arrangements for defence, arising out of the Anglo-Jordanian Treaty, have recently been entered into with the Kingdom of Jordan.
§ Mr. Selwyn LloydIn accordance with the Anglo-Jordan Treaty of Alliance of 1948, Her Majesty's Government and the Jordan Government consult regularly about common defence interests. These consultations take place through the Anglo-Jordan Joint Defence Board, which met last month at Amman. The hon. Member will not expect me to give details of the plans discussed.
§ Mr. ReidHas the right hon. and learned Gentleman seen the statement made by the Government of Jordan, the gist of which was that whatever war Jordan undertook, including a war against Israel, Britain would join Jordan? Has he any comment to make on that statement?
§ Mr. LloydThe Foreign Secretary dealt with that point in a recent answer in the House. I have nothing to add to that answer.
