§ 37. Mr. Albuasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proportion of the Civil Defence Corps and of the Auxiliary Fire Service have completed their training; and what proportion have not yet commenced training.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeAccording to returns furnished by the local authorities, approximately 9 per cent. of the Civil Defence Corps and 21 per cent. of the Auxiliary Fire Service have completed the training syllabuses at present prescribed and approximately 4 per cent. and 9 per cent. respectively have not yet started training.
§ Mr. AlbuDoes the right hon. and learned Gentleman consider that the number of those who have completed their training is in any way satisfactory?
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeIt is fair to remember that the recruitment has been spread unevenly over several years and, therefore, statistics in the form of percentages are apt to be misleading. After making allowance for that, may we again co-operate in trying to get everybody to take their training and complete it as quickly as possible?
