HC Deb 25 February 1954 vol 524 cc567-8
45. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Prime Minister what special arrangements are being made for the safety of members of Her Majesty's Government in the event of an atom bomb raid on London.

The Prime Minister (Sir Winston Churchill)

I do not propose to answer this Question. The hon. Member must not in his innocence take the bread out of the mouths of the Soviet Secret Service.

Mr. Hughes

Is the Prime Minister aware that there is no need for the Soviet Secret Service to discover that the United States Government have agreed to spend £121½ million on an air-raid shelter for themselves? Can he assure us that before Her Majesty's Government contemplate such expenditure they will ask the Coal Board to provide them with a good, healthy old coalmine?

The Prime Minister

All these suggestions and others of equal value from the hon. Member will be duly considered.

Mr. Chetwynd

Can the Prime Minister say whether any special arrangements are being made to protect the Members of his Government on show at Madame Tussaud's in the future?
