asked the Minister of Fuel and Power the authorised establishment of inspectors of mines; the number of vacancies as at 31st December, 1953; and the number of inspectors engaged in full-time work who are over 65 years of age.

Is the Minister satisfied that the present remuneration is sufficient to attract new entrants, and, if not, does he think that the inspectorate will be able to carry out the new duties that may be imposed upon them if and when the Mines and Quarries Bill becomes law?
