§ 52. Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Minister of Agriculture what prosecutions have been instituted under the Control of Dogs Order, 1920, and the Control of Dogs (Amendment) Order, 1920, in respect of dogs found in highways or places of public resort without collars bearing the name and address of the owner since the orders came into force; and what were the results of such prosecutions.
§ Sir T. DugdaleI assume that the hon. Member is referring to the two Orders of 1930. These Orders are enforced by 531 local authorities, and I have no information as to the number of prosecutions instituted by them.
§ Mr. FreemanIs the right hon. Gentleman aware that of the half million dogs in this country fewer than 10 per cent. have their names and addresses on their collars? Can he say how he proposes to deal with the matter?
§ Sir T. DugdaleI do not think it is the duty of the Government to supervise local authorities in the enforcement of these provisions.
