HC Deb 27 October 1953 vol 518 c2607
34. Mr. John Hall

asked the Secretary of State for War how far the decision to move British troops from Trieste will result in financial hardship to the officers and men; and if he will authorise special allowances to cover such cases.

The Secretary of State for War (Mr. Antony Head)

I have this possibility very much in mind, and I can assure my hon. Friend that any cases of exceptional financial hardship caused by these circumstances will be carefully and sympathetically considered by my Department.

Mr. Emrys Hughes

Will this also apply to Scots soldiers sent to British Guiana, about half a dozen of whom were married a week before they went?

Mr. Head

That is a different question, but my sympathies always lie with Scots soldiers.
