HC Deb 21 October 1953 vol 518 cc1964-5
38. Mr. T. Reid

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies what gifts have been given or promised to British Guiana since the end of the First World War on behalf of the taxpayers of Britain and by international agencies, respectively.

Mr. Lyttelton

The grants made and promised by Her Majesty's Government over the period total£6,254,688. The total cost of the schemes undertaken by international agencies is estimated at£21,000.

Mr. Sorensen

Will the right hon. Gentleman also give any information about the amount of income from British investments in British Guiana and also the other economic value of British Guiana to this country?

Mr. Lyttelton

That is hardly a supplementary question to attach to the main Question on the Paper I am answering.
