HC Deb 24 November 1953 vol 521 cc173-4
18. Miss Burton

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that many Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes' cafes serving our troops in Korea close down at 6 p.m.; and, as this is too early for those coming off duty, if he will make arrangements for the closing hour to be altered.

Mr. Head

The closing hour of all establishments operated by the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes in Korea is 9.30 p.m., apart from two road houses which close at 8 p.m. and two at 7 p.m.

Miss Burton

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that although this Question was put down in the belief that the statements contained in it were correct. I am very glad that the Minister's facts prove otherwise? Is he aware how very glad the troops are that the Salvation Army is to open cafes in Korea, as its work has been very much appreciated?

Mr. Head

I can bear that out. I know that the work which the Salvation Army has done all over the world for the Army is much appreciated.
