HC Deb 16 November 1953 vol 520 cc1393-4
28. Sir I. Fraser

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance whether the clothing allowance for amputees can be paid in January whilst the post-Christmas sales are on to enable pensioners to obtain better value for money.

Mr. Peake

I am not aware of any demand for this change. Payment of these allowances is spread throughout the year; to change to one date would necessitate the recalculation of the allowance for broken periods and the payment of widely differing sums to pensioners accustomed to receive a regular amount. I do not think that the advantages claimed are sufficient to outweigh the misunderstandings which would inevitably arise.
