HC Deb 21 May 1953 vol 515 c2252
53. Mr. Russell

asked the President of the Board of Trade what communication he has received from the Burma Government in regard to the tariff preferences which they are now granting on certain imports from the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The Burmese Foreign Minister has given notice to Her Majesty's Government, through our Ambassador in Rangoon, of Burma's withdrawal, after 30th September next, from the Ottawa Trade Agreement of 1932. This step does not oblige the Burma Government to make an immediate revision of their tariff and the enquiries we have made do not indicate that they have yet reached any conclusions about their future tariff policy.
