HC Deb 12 May 1953 vol 515 c1046
34. Mr. Storey

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government whether he is now able to relax the restrictions upon private street works imposed in 1951 and 1952; and whether he will consider the procedure laid down by his Department for obtaining sanction for private street work expenditure, with a view to simplifying it and giving more discretion to local authorities.

The Minister of Housing and Local Government (Mr. Harold Macmillan)

What can be allowed is conditioned by the resources available for this class of work. Subject to this, I am anxious to see the procedure made as simple as possible.
