HC Deb 05 May 1953 vol 515 c195
29. Captain Orr

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give an approximate estimate of the loss in revenue in a full year consequent upon giving equity to the linen trade by raising the D level for all Class C materials to 50 per cent. higher than that for Class B materials.

Mr. R. A. Butler

If my hon. and gallant Friend is thinking of a change of the D level for linen articles including clothing, the cost would not exceed £500,000. But such a change would have consequences elsewhere, the effect of which I cannot estimate even approximately.
