HC Deb 05 May 1953 vol 515 cc181-2
12. Mr. Emrys Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for War what expense he has incurred in connection with the visit of Doctor Speidel to military establishments in Britain.

Mr. Head

£4 14s. 7d.

Mr. Hughes

Is the Minister aware that Dr. Speidel was stated by the Prime Minister to be spending a fortnight in this country. Does that £4 14s. 7d. just cover drinks? What is Dr. Speidel going to do at the Royal Aircraft Factory, Farn-borough? Will he be allowed to take photographs? How far have the Government agreed to the re-creation of a German tactical force and the reappearance of the Luftwaffe?

Mr. Head

With regard to Dr. Speidel's fortnight's stay, he is staying in London at his own Government's expense. Travel to and from this country is also paid for by his own Government. As to photography at Faraborough, that question should be addressed to my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Air.
