HC Deb 05 March 1953 vol 512 cc539-40
12. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many persons providing accommodation addresses are registered with the Metropolitan Police for the purpose of carrying on the business of receiving and delivering postal packets.

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

One hundred and eighty, Sir.

Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

Will the Minister say what steps have been taken by the police to ensure that no unregistered persons carry on this kind of business and that only reputable persons who are registered or those in business may use them for legitimate purposes?

Sir D. Maxwell Fyfe

I shall gladly do my best to deal with any particular difficulties of the hon. and gallant Gentleman, but I do not see that I can say more than that the police will keep the most severe watch on this matter.
