HC Deb 22 July 1953 vol 518 cc536-7
Sir D. Eccles

I beg to move, in page 11, line 14: That Clause 15 be transferred to end of line 7, page 12, and that the said Clause together with Clauses 17 and 18 be Part IV of the Bill. This Amendment is one of two Amendments that are put down because we think that the Bill would be in better shape in four Parts and not in three, as originally drafted. Part I will deal with the preservation of historic buildings and their contents, Part II with the amended procedure for the protection of ancient monuments, Part III with minor modifications of ancient monuments provisions, and Part IV with miscellaneous and general provisions.

Mr. E. Fletcher

The Minister's suggestion is wise and will make the Bill more logical. Would he consider as a result of these Amendments making available the original Acts in their amended form? It will be a little difficult otherwise to appreciate the whole law on the subject. It would be very convenient if, after the Bill has been enacted, it could be consolidated in some form so that the whole law on the subject could be available.

Sir D. Eccles

May I, with the leave of the House, say that I have the greatest sympathy with the hon. Gentleman in that matter? I have tried to trace cross-references in Finance Bills. I will look into the point and see whether something can be done.

Amendment agreed to.
