HC Deb 01 July 1953 vol 517 cc388-9
43. Mr. H. Hynd

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies in view of the report published by the International Labour Organisation on 23rd June, in which it is stated that the Voluntarily Unemployed Persons Ordinance in Kenya could be applied, although it appears that it is at present not being applied, in such a way as to result in a system of forced labour, if he will now abolish that ordinance.

Mr. Lyttelton

No, Sir. It is a temporary law renewable annually and I have no doubt the observations of the committee will receive consideration from the Kenya Legislation when the ordinance is again due for renewal.
