HC Deb 20 January 1953 vol 510 c28
26. Mr. Colegate

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he can now make a further statement with regard to the introduction of legislation about the preservation of historic houses.

Mr. R. A. Butler

Not yet, I am afraid, but I hope to be able to do so shortly.

39. Mr. Colegate

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what he estimates would be the annual loss of revenue if the recommendations of the Gowers Report on Historic Buildings were fully implemented.

Mr. R. A. Butler

On the assumption made in the Report that about 2,000 properties would be affected, the annual loss of revenue would he about £10 million.
