§ 16. Mr. Langford-Holtasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what advice he has received from the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police concerning the introduction of unilateral parking in streets where a one-way traffic system is not operating and the parking of cars on both sides of the street permits only one line of traffic in one direction.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeThe Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis was consulted before experimental unilateral waiting was introduced in a number of selected streets in London, 2284 including a number of streets of the type referred to in the Question. It is too early to assess the effects of this experiment, but the Commissioner tells me that preliminary reports suggest that it is securing a better flow of traffic.
§ Mr. Langford-HoltHow long does my right hon. and learned Friend expect that the present experimental streets shall remain experimental, and when will he extend the system, because it has proved an undoubted success—probably the greatest thing he can do to ease traffic congestion in London?
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeI will keep it under consideration. I should like a little more information before making a definite pronouncement.
§ Sir H. WilliamsWould my right hon. and learned Friend drive up Park Street just to find out how it does not work—where there is bilateral parking?
