asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will now make a statement on pensions to widows and dependants of police officers killed on duty.

This matter will be discussed at a meeting of the Police Council for England and Wales next month. I am not in a position to make a statement at present.

Would my right hon. and learned Friend make use of the fact that most of the House of Commons is behind him in his fight with the Treasury? Good luck to him.

I do not know that I can adopt it in that form, but I know what the hon. Lady means.
