HC Deb 17 December 1953 vol 522 c547
7. Miss Ward

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is satisfied with the industrial and scientific background of the recruits to the factory inspectorate.

Mr. Watkinson

It is not necessary for all recruits to have such a background, but I should welcome an increase in the number who have.

Miss Ward

Is my hon. Friend fully satisfied that the terms offered for the recruitment of new inspectors for the factory inspectorate are sufficiently satisfactory to attract sufficient men with the proper background to perform the duties which these inspectors have to carry out?

Mr. Watkinson

We are looking carefully into that, but, since putting down this Question, my hon. Friend has written to me, and I should like to give her a detailed reply, which I am sending to her.
