HC Deb 15 April 1953 vol 514 cc188-9
25. Mr. Dodds

asked the Minister of Food the average weekly milk consumption per person for the fourth quarter of 1952; and how this compares with the same period in 1950 and 1951.

Major Lloyd George

4.8 pints, compared with 4.7 pints in 1950 and 4.9 pints in 1951, according to the National Food Survey.

Mr. Dodds

In view of the unanimity of opinion about the value of milk to the health of the nation, will the Minister give an undertaking to resist any attempts now being made to increase the price of milk?

Major Lloyd George

I am not aware of any such attempts.

Mr. F. Willey

Is the right hon. and gallant Gentleman aware that the latest official figures published by his Ministry show a fall of 4 per cent. in the consumption of fresh milk? Does he regard this fall as serious or will he tell the House what the amount of the fall must be before he regards it as serious?

Major Lloyd George

Perhaps I may be allowed to let the hon. Gentleman know that at some other time.
