asked the Minister of Food the policy of his Department in regard to the issue of ration books to new applicants.

Major Lloyd George

All new applicants who produce evidence that their application is genuine are given appropriate ration documents.

Mr. Grimond

Are the appropriate rationing documents ration books or temporary ration cards? In one case an applicant who is becoming a permanent resident in this country has been told that she can only get a temporary ration card for three or four weeks?

Major Lloyd George

I will send the hon. Gentleman details, but I think that if the lady is a permanent resident she is entitled to an ordinary ration book. It is those people who are just visiting who are very strictly limited
