HC Deb 10 November 1952 vol 507 cc575-6
20. Mr. Oliver

asked the Minister of National Insurance why it is possible for widows in receipt of a weekly pension of 10s. to get different amounts on becoming entitled to retirement pension according to which of the insurance suffixes of A, B, C or D is applied, notwithstanding that in every material particular their cases are identical.

Mr. Peake

The fact that contributors have different contribution years cannot affect their pension entitlement if contributions have been paid regularly. If the hon. and learned Member has a particular case in mind, perhaps he will let me have details.

Mr. Oliver

Does the Minister know that under the existing arrangements, 10s. pensioners who become entitled to the retirement pension can differ in the amount of retirement pension to the extent of 4s. a week?

Mr. Peake

I should be obliged if the hon. and learned Member would send me particulars of any case he has in mind. As I have said, if the contributions have been regularly paid, the pension is bound to be at the same figure, whenever the contribution year happens to begin.
