HC Deb 10 November 1952 vol 507 c576
22. Lieut.-Commander Hutchison

asked the Minister of National Insurance whether he will now consider raising the maximum limit for casual earnings, without reduction of retirement pension, to a higher figure.

Mr. Peake

No, Sir. I would refer my hon. and gallant friend to my answer of 27th October to my hon. Friend the Member for Blackley (Mr. E. Johnson).

Lieut.-Commander Hutchison

Is my right hon. Friend aware that many people who are interested in National Insurance problems feel that the time is now appropriate to raise the limit to 60s. a week?

Mr. Peake

We must give the new retirement principle for pensions a chance of operating. I remind my hon. and gallant Friend that the earnings limit was doubled only last year by my predecessor.
