HC Deb 29 May 1952 vol 501 c1646
34. Mr. Shepherd

asked the Minister of Health when it is proposed to introduce amending legislation in connection with the Mental Deficiency Acts.

Mr. Iain Macleod

I am not yet in a position to say.

Mr. Shepherd

in view of the changes in technique and the need for classification, is it not most desirable that we should have some legislation dealing with the matter within the next 12 months? Can my right hon. Friend say that such legislation will be introduced within the next 12 months?

Mr. Macleod

I cannot give an undertaking that legislation will be introduced, but my Department is examining the matter very carefully, and has been doing so for some time, with a view to ascertaining what legislation is necessary.
