HC Deb 17 March 1952 vol 497 c1906
30. Mr. Frederick Willey

asked the Minister of Food with what representatives of pre-war meat importers he has had discussions about the procurement of meat from the Argentine; and if he will make a statement.

Major Lloyd George

I have met individual representatives of pre-war meat importers informally and the procurement of meat from the Argentine has been one of the matters on which they have given me their views. These meetings were informal and the opinions expressed were simply those of private individuals. It would not, therefore, be proper for me to make a statement.

Mr. Willey

Would the right hon. and gallant Gentleman deny that the gentlemen whom he has consulted refused to take part in the procurement of Argentine beef under the present arrangements?

Major Lloyd George

I can only repeat the last sentence of my answer, which was that it would not be proper for me to make a statement.
